Stem Cell Project

Research
  1. Visit the Opposing Viewpoints Database from the L.A. County Public Library.
  2. To login, use your barcode number on your Manhattan Beach or Hermosa Beach Public Library card, or Mira Costa's password. Ask at the library for the password.
  3. Click Browse Issues, then select View All from the drop-down box, and select Stem Cells.
  4. Read at least three articles on the Stem Cells page and take notes.

Writing Assignment
  1. Write a letter to your Congressional Representative in support of or opposition to federal funding for stem cell research. Find your Member of Congress.
  2. In your letter, include at least three reasons for your position and arguments from your reading in support of these arguments.
  3. Explain one argument that contradicts your position, and provide a counter argument.
  4. For your conclusion, restate your position. 
  5. Your paper is due at the beginning of school on Monday.

Use a Google Doc for Your Letter
  1. Create a Google Document to write your letter. Check this example for proper format for your letter. 
  2. Name your document in the format P# Lastname Firstname StemCells  For example:                      P1 Smith John StemCells
  3. Share your document with Ms. Nielsen using this address: tkatnielsen@gmail.com and with Mrs. Lofton at jlofton@mbusd.org
